HOW LONG HAVE WE BEEN HERE
In 2011, Bert and his crew took over the management of Three Little Bakers.
WHY DO WE DO IT
(after being awake for several hours in the middle of the night)
We do it because we like what we are doing. Our clients’ feedback as they enter our bakery provides us with a sense of accomplishment and fulfilment in our work.
You could say that happiness is the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting through the air as it emerges from the oven, the taste of pie meat as it simmers in the pot on the stove, the scent of freshly baked cakes that lingers in the air, and a hint of cinnamon from fruit buns that floats through the air…
The gratitude of our clients makes up for many hours of missed sleep, but there is no better joy than seeing the enthusiasm on the faces of the children when they find out that we have a broad selection of freshly baked treats.
Our Products
We are ecstatic to be in a situation where we can provide you with goods that our experienced team members handcraft.
Bert is getting all of the ingredients from the most reputable people in the baking industry so that he may turn them into the most delicious treats possible.
The meat that we use for the pies has been hand-picked, and although our simple and flavoured pies are produced with minced beef, the Bushman’s Pie is made with chunks of steak.
Our sandwich bar sources all of its fruits and veggies for making sandwiches directly from a greengrocer in the area.
Because we care about your comfort, we keep ProCal Milk in stock.
Every item is handcrafted on the premises from scratch and baked on a regular basis.
And just in case you were wondering, any uneaten bread is donated to a charitable organisation or given to a farmer to feed to his animals.
Order now, pick-up later.
Did you know that the majority of our products can be found and viewed in their respective images on our online store?
You can make your selection from the convenience of your own home by selecting the “shop” tab. Then you should call in your order ahead of time and pick it up during a less busy time of day.

At RawLove Superfoods, we are firm believers in the transformative potential of sinking your teeth into something irresistibly rich in flavour and texture. There is nothing quite like giving oneself a reward in the form of food that makes you feel good about yourself. In addition, we are of the opinion that pleasure and health are not incompatible goals. Because of this, each and every one of our handcrafted sweets and snacks is proudly organic, raw, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free refined.
Our cuisine, whether it be our well-known mint-choc slice or one of our velvety “cheese” cakes, is infused with essential oils from Doterra that are food-grade and is packed with superfoods that are rich in nutrients. Our idea is straightforward: health, vigour, and happiness start from the within and work their way out. Because of this, we make food that is nourishing not just for the body but also for the mind and the spirit.
In 2012, Sandra Bottrell, who was one of the first qualified raw chefs in Australia, opened the first RawLove Superfoods location in Sydney. Bottrell also owns and operates the business. Sandra has an extensive history in holistic health thanks to her training as a holistic counsellor who specialises in bereavement and her training as a massage therapist who specialises in lymphatic drainage. Because of her professional and personal experiences, Sandra has learned that attempting to live a lifestyle that is both healthy and healing can feel solitary, particularly when it comes to one’s relationship with food. After enduring an illness and beginning a quest to regain her health, Sandra found that it was quite difficult to locate wholesome snacks and sweets to satisfy her sweet tooth.
Sandra’s ambition to bridge the gap between health, nutrition, and experiencing life and food to the fullest was inspired by this discovery, which, along with her years of experience working in the holistic health business, kindled her passion. Sandra had the idea to make sweets that would turn the classic flavours and tastes that we are all familiar with and enjoy into something that we can continue to enjoy and feel good about eating even after the desserts are gone. And with that guiding principle in mind, RawLove Superfoods was brought into the world. Sandra and her team of dedicated chefs are now based in Melbourne, and they supply their handcrafted delicacies to cafés and health food stores throughout the state of Victoria as well as the entirety of New South Wales.
RawLove Superfoods welcomes you, whether you are a devoted follower of raw food, a raw food dabbler, or you simply want to try something new and nurturing for yourself. Participate in the fun by going to our Brighton East site today, visiting one of our proud shops, trying out one of our cakes for an upcoming special occasion, or signing up for one of our classes.
RawLove is a brand of superfoods. Developed with attention and imbued with affection.
What does a wedding cake signify?
The wedding cake is a festive confection adorned with fresh flowers to mark the occasion. It looks like cake and tastes good, but is it really simply cake? Or does it have a deeper significance than that? The design of a cake, whether it be a straightforward one for cutting or a spectacular one with five tiers, may not be as arbitrary as you believe it to be. Continue reading to find out more about the origins of this sweet, the significance of cutting the cake, and the traditions surrounding wedding cakes.
A stunning wedding cake serves as the focal point of the ceremony and reception, and it is customarily placed in a prominent location at the reception. A tradition that dates back to Roman and Medieval times, this painstakingly crafted confection has been passed down from generation to generation.
Back in those days, instead of a multi-tiered culinary masterpiece, a stack of buns was utilised as a sign, but the meaning behind it was essentially the same. Many customs have been developed concerning the cake over the course of several centuries, and despite this, it continues to be an essential component of any wedding.
It is essential to take the time to plan a cake that is a reflection of the marriage and to bear in mind all of the different traditions that have been created around wedding cakes.
Wedding Cake Traditions and Facts
The Cake Symbolises Prosperity, Good Luck and Fertility
For the marriage to be prosperous, joyful, and fruitful as well as to produce a large number of offspring, the best ingredients possible are used to make the wedding cake. The cake also serves as a symbol of good luck and fertility.
Three Tiers
The wedding cake has traditionally consisted of three tiers. The one on the bottom was the one that was offered during the ceremony, and the one in the centre was the one that was offered after. The bride and groom would put aside the top tier of the cake for the christening of their first child. In days gone by, it was not unusual for the first child to be born a few months after the wedding. This was especially true for the first child. This is a practise that is still followed by some couples, who put their cake’s top tier, or at least a slice of it, in the freezer until their first wedding anniversary.
These days, wedding cakes can include anywhere from three to seven tiers, depending on the customer’s preferences and financial constraints. If you choose to cut and serve portions of the cake during the meal, you will need approximately three tiers of cake for a smaller wedding (up to 100 guests), but you will need at least five tiers of deliciousness for a larger celebration that is hosting 200 people or more. It is imperative that you confer with your baker regarding the specifics of your order.
Kiss Over the Cake for a Long Marriage
The three tiers will be stacked in the bride and groom in the middle ages with a kiss over the cake. They would have a long and happy marriage if they were able to do it without causing any damage to the cake.
Current Cake Style Was Invented In London
Thomas Rich, a cook in London, England, in the 18th century, produced a new form of wedding cake. He modelled it after the steeple of St. Bride’s Church, which was his source of inspiration.
Luxe, Status and Celebration Symbol
At one point in time, the cake was made of fruit, and the white frosting was a rare and expensive ingredient that was in high demand. Refined sugar was rare, and only rich brides and grooms could afford a white icing, a symbol of purity and wealth. At her wedding to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria wore a white dress, and the cake they shared was covered in white icing, which became known as the royal icing in subsequent years.
Lucky Charms
It was common practise to ask the unmarried women in attendance to remove ribbons from the lowest tier of the cake. According to custom, one of them would have a ring connected to it, and the delighted maiden would be the next one to get married once she received the ring.
Two Cakes Instead of One
Historically, the bride and the husband would have their own separate cakes. Chocolate was the traditional flavour of the groom’s cake due to the dark colour, which was thought to represent masculinity. White icing, which represented cleanliness, was used to decorate the cake for the bride.
The groom would be in charge of cutting the cake and distributing it as favours, while the bride’s cake would be presented at dinner.
Wedding Toppers
Toppers are a traditional component of contemporary wedding cakes. They are typically made of porcelain, although occasionally, they are Lego figures. They are frequently humorous, like the one shown in the image to the right. The newlywed couple frequently uses the cake topper as a festive holiday ornament.
Cutting the Cake
The cutting of the cake is a big moment and photo opportunity during the special event. Other major moments include the first dance, the grand entrance, exchanging rings, and the first kiss. Photographers who work professionally for weddings are aware that their first priority should be to capture an excellent image of the couple as they cut the cake. I always make sure to get a close-up shot of the hands, particularly the bride’s hand with the rings on top of it, as well as a clear picture of the pair while they are cutting the cake.
Feeding the Cake
After the couple has cut the cake, it is time for them to serve themselves a slice (or more) of the confection. The chance to get some excellent candid images of the bride and groom having a good time is one of my absolute favourites to take advantage of at weddings. I usually ask them to feed each other two slices the first time they are more formal; however, after they realise that we have the images “in the bag,” they become more playful and start to interact with each other more natural way. The second set of photographs taken at a wedding are typically the ones that make it into the album because the emotions captured in them are more authentic.
Historically, the bride was the one to cut the cake as a representation of her leaving behind her innocence…
In the past, brides would receive the cake at their parents’ house, take a bite, and then toss the rest of the slice of cake over their head as a symbol of a fruitful married life. In Rome, a practice that was somewhat analogous to this one was reported; the groom would symbolically represent prosperity and fertility by breaking bread over the head of the bride.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, many couples will then smash the cake into each other’s faces, making for some really intriguing photographs. Unfortunately, the dress and sometimes even the groom’s tux are frequently ruined. To our good fortune, the event takes place after supper, and the only thing that comes after that is the party.
Sleeping With a Piece of Cake Under the Pillow
In the 1700s, young women would sleep with a piece of cake tucked under their pillow so they could dream about their future spouse. According to one set of beliefs, Maidens are said to go to sleep with a slice of cake tucked into their left stocking.
Types of Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes have developed over time. Today, depending on the nation and culture, there are various options available, including classic cakes (white), cupcakes, frosted cakes, and fruit cakes. In addition, we are able to categorise cakes according to their flavours; for instance, multiple tiers of the same cake may be chocolate, carrot, Italian cream, Italian rum, mint, etc.
Croquembouche in France, Sponge Cake in Germany
In France, the traditional wedding cake is a tower of profiteroles, which are sweet pastries filled with cream and topped with flowers, nuts, ribbons, and a drizzle of chocolate or caramel. A word to keep in mind is “croque en bouche,” which literally translates to “cracks in your mouth.”
In Germany, newlyweds traditionally celebrate with a sponge cake layered with jam, liqueurs, marzipan, and chocolate or fondant frosting.
Noteworthy is the fact that the French and Germans only employ the utilisation of natural colours.
Sugar Flowers thanks to Sylvia Weinstock
In the 1970s, Sylvia Weinstock began lavishly creating wedding cakes, leading to her becoming a prominent figure in the cake industry in New York City and eventually worldwide. It is not uncommon to hear people refer to her as “the Queen of Cakes,” and we can count Donald Trump, Mariah Carey, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and a great many other famous people among her clientele.
European Countries Have Different Cakes and Traditions
In the many countries that make up Europe, cakes can take on a few distinct forms. For instance, in Sweden and Hungary, the bride and groom would customarily share a spettekaka and kurtoskalacs at the wedding reception (a conical cake). There is a tree-shaped cake called sakotis that is traditional in Lithuania. Poland and Germany also have a dessert that is shaped similarly.
Wedding Cake History & Wedding Cake Origin
Since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the wedding cake cutting has been a customary feature of the celebration. During the wedding ceremony, the husband broke the bread over the head of the bride. This was done to represent good luck and fertility and to symbolise the loss of her innocence and her subjection to his will.
A novel approach to the wedding cake emerged somewhere during the Middle Ages. The more recent method involved cakes that were stacked to an extremely high level, and the newlyweds would kiss over it. It was believed that if they could successfully kiss without knocking over the cake, they would be blessed with a large family. However, they failed to do so.
The English culture took the purpose of increasing the bride’s fertility one step further and came to the conclusion that the best way to achieve this would be to toss the wedding cake at the bride.
The Icing on the Cake
In the past, wedding cakes did not consist of the iced confections that are served today. They were often unadorned and resembled the fruitcakes of today in appearance. However, by the 17th century and continuing into the 18th century, sugar began to become more affordable, and white icing began to be used as a symbol of the bride’s virginity as well as an indicator of the wealth of the bride’s family. This is not surprising, given that white icing was traditionally associated with wealth. Later on, the addition of colour to the icing, the presence of tiered cakes, and intricate designs all served as indicators of an even higher level of luxury and social standing. The act of the pair feeding each other is meant to convey to onlookers that they want to protect and care for each other for the rest of their lives.
Cutting the Wedding Cake
Traditionally, the bride was the only person permitted to cut and serve the wedding cake to the guests at the reception in order to maintain her fertility. However, because weddings have become more elaborate affairs, the bride and groom now share responsibility for this task. At the appointed time, the ceremonial to cut the cake got underway. It is traditional for the groom to place his hand on top of the hand of the bride during the exchange of wedding vows as a sign of support and as a pledge to provide for her and their joint future. Because of the couple’s long-standing commitment to one another, they were advised to make their selections from the bottom rung. It is customary for guests to have a piece of cake after the happy couple has cut theirs, in the belief that doing so will bring them success.
You should now understand why it is necessary to have a delightfully decorated item at your wedding, regardless of whether you choose to have a single wedding cake, a plethora of cupcakes, or perhaps a variety of cakes served at your reception.
